Marigot Bay in Saint Lucia
Marigot Bay in Saint Lucia.
If you are planning to visit St. Lucia, ensure that you pay this beautiful bay a visit. If you are traveling by land, you get to experience the breathtaking view of the bay while standing on the hilltop of the Marigot community, as shown in the photo above. Sorry to say, but the condition of the road is not too tire-friendly. However, I do hope it gets fixed in the near future. In addition, you can also access the bay by sea.
To continue, there is a range of hotels and restaurants that you could choose from.
There are also mangroves that you can literally walk through to experience the magnificence of nature by the use of a wooden bridge, which creates the perfect path among the groves.
Furthermore, to access the other half of the bay, you would need to get on a ferry, which will take you to the other side of the bay by sea, which normally charges about $2 U.S.
On the other side of the bay is also magnificent. You will have access to the beautiful sandy beach where you can enjoy the sea and sand, but also, there is a list of vendors to choose from to buy your souvenirs. Also, on the other side of the bay is a hotel that houses a popular bar and restaurant.
Here is a photo below of one of the ferry services offered there, along with the captain. He always has a bright smile on every trip.
There is no better experience of a place than an introduction to the people who live there; the driving force that placed that bay on the map is its own people, and here are their stories.
Marigot Bay is one of the most beautiful bays in the Caribbean. Memories of growing up in such a mesmerizing place were as beautiful as its scenery. It has brought to life talented individuals; people who did not have many educational opportunities were able to become successful. They were able to create opportunities for themselves. Sailing became their passion. The young men who grew up in Marigot taught themselves to be sailors; they did not stop there, they also taught their peers and anyone who came to Marigot, hoping to get some opportunities to change their lives.
In the past, I have received many stories from young men; many of these stories are all the same: they were lost, hungry, unemployed, and decided to hang around Marigot Bay. It was there that they met people who grew up in Marigot, they fed them and taught them how to work on yachts, dinghies, and boats. They taught them everything from how to clean boats, maintain them, and even how to sail. They all had such high regard for those individuals. Their last statement was 'I am the man I am today because of these men'.
I have always had a deep love for my birthplace, Marigot, the determination of the people who live there, and their accomplishments without help from any Government. Yes, they instantly recognized the potential that Marigot had, and they utilized those potentials, which attracted quite a few investors, thus creating employment in nearby towns and villages. Furthermore, they created opportunities for themselves, and they are always willing to give each other a helping hand.
Take a lime at night in Marigot and enjoy such beauty as these photos above. A scenery like this is breathtaking. It is the perfect place for a romantic evening for anyone. Whenever I felt troubled or my mind was in overload, such scenery would put me in a calm state and bring with it instant rejuvenation.
During the day, slowly but surely, yachts love to anchor in the bay area near the Marina. Some grab their dinghy and move from yacht to yacht, selling souvenirs and fruits, an honest day’s work. Such examples should be inspiring to the young men of today; theft is not the answer. If you are lost and desperate, excuse my language, pay Marigot Bay a visit, you might just find the answers that you are looking for. Yes! The men who work at the bay as sailors and vendors may not have realized it, but they provide rehabilitation for the lost and weary souls.
Marigot will always be in my heart. Cheers!!
