Do you know about Mercury Beach?

  • What is Mercury Beach?
Mercury Beach is an event held by the French nationals of Martinique, a neighbouring island off the coast of St. Lucia. Like the name suggests, it is held on a beach. That event is now being held in Martinique, not in St. Lucia anymore, but it is just as successful in Martinique as it was in St.Lucia.

Mercury Beach will be held on the 26th of July 2026. The event normally takes place in the community, which is called Grande Anse in Martinique. By a beach called Anse d'Arlet at one time, but that location can change at any point.

The performers for the event are and will be Caribbean artists. They do have DJ performances, though I have never attended. I know a lot about the event based on my previous employment back in St. Lucia. The Mercury Beach party was linked to a late-night club in St. Lucia, and during that event, I always had to work. That is because, after the beach party, the attendants would go to the late-night club as the after-party.

According to the Martinique reporters, the event is always successful as it attracts nearly and sometimes over 8000 participants. In my opinion, that is huge progress and revenue streams.
Kudos to Martinique!

  • A little about the Island of Martinique;
Martinique is a French Island, the language spoken is French, and the currency is the Euro.
If you are a tourist visiting St. Lucia or Dominica, it is easy for you to travel to and from Martinique on the Ferry called l'Express des Îles. The ticket cost beats that of an airline. The cost is around 350 E.C dollars, less than 200 US dollars.

Before travelling to Martinique, make sure you have booked an Airbnb or hotel in advance, as immigration is very strict about it to the point of refusing you entry.

  • A little history about Mercury Beach.
About 8 years ago, the local residents of St. Lucia were not having it, whilst others believe that it is beneficial to our economy, others are comparing it to biblical beliefs; it is a sin to allow certain events, like Mercury beach, to take place on the Island of St. Lucia.

Normally, the beach party was expected to attract approximately 325 vessels from Martinique and over 7000 visitors from neighboring Islands like Guadeloupe, St Vincent, Barbados, and Trinidad for this yearly event.

Despite all that, the beach party became a huge event, which also attracted international tourists to the Island. As a result of its huge success, price gouging became a big problem. The rent for the location skyrocketed, including restaurants and bars, the tent rental companies, and the tax overall, to at least have the event all decided to up their prices.

I am looking forward to attending this year and in the years to come.

Chao for now.
