Personal Travelling Tips

                                       My Personal Travel Tips

I have quite a bit of travelling experience throughout my life, and I was able to learn and use some tips that helped me through it to this day. Some people may think that travel is just fun, while the experience may be worthwhile; however, travelling requires preparation and patience. Here are some helpful tips;

                                                 Before the travel

Compare ticket prices

Before you decide to buy your travel tickets from a travel agency, compare the prices among the agencies, both online and in person, and keep a written record, but most important of all, compare those prices to the airline's personal website. In my experience, I saved so much more with the airlines' websites.

Secure Yourself

Ensure that you buy travel insurance; if anything were to happen to you in another country that is not your own, you need that insurance to take care of you, most importantly. Some people may think that it is a bit much for your pocket, and maybe nothing too severe will occur on your travel, but it is better to be safe than sorry.

Travel Bags

Get some strong and well-secured travel bags. For example, travel bags that use a code lock or those that have a padlock to ensure that only you can access your bag.

Secure your travel and personal documents

Make extra copies of your travel documents, both prints and photos, and email yourself both PDF and photocopies of your travel documents to ensure safety. Furthermore, place all your important documents, such as passports, travel itineraries, and tickets, in your carry-on.  The maximum airline baggage weight is 20kg per bag, so take what is most essential. As for me, on that part, I always travel light.

What kind of clothing to pack?

Research the weather conditions in the destination country and pick clothing accordingly. For example, if the country is sunny on the dates that you will be there, pack summer clothing, etc.

Snacks

Though with the ticket prices, snacks may be included, but walk with a bottle of water and some light snacks of your choice, especially for people with allergies and diabetics.

Mindset

You need to be prepared mentally.

  • Practice patience, because disappointments and delays occur during travelling, and to my experience, it always does. Do not be quick to frustrate yourself, that will not help out in the situation.
  • Keep an open mind to the culture and language of the destination country. Always approach the culture with curiosity, not judgment. Furthermore, learn key phrases of the destination country so you can blend in.

 The day before the travel

Carefully pack all your travel bags and carry-on. Ensure that all important documents are neatly packed in your carry-on. Double and triple-check throughout the day, and before your bedtime, that all your important documents, cash, and credit cards are in the carry-on. Use an alarm to wake you up as early as possible, because you need to be at the terminal as early as you can to beat the crowd. To be honest, as for me, the night before my travel, I barely sleep, but I would have my alarm on anyway.

                         During the travel

Smartphones and Electronics

Keep all smartphones and electronics off till you get to your destination.

General tips while on the airplane

  • Keep your carry-on close to you, or you can carefully place it in the space provided above your head. Do not be afraid to ask the hostesses questions.
  • Follow instructions diligently.
  • Say some silent prayers or affirmations, whatever that you are into during the flight.
  • Take some deep breaths.
  • If you can or did buy some word puzzles, it can help ease the time.
  • Sip your water and snack in between; that will definitely help with the digestion and anxiety for those who get anxious.

                                               Time spent on Destination

  1. It is safer to take the taxi; however, if you feel that it is safe enough, then you can take the bus or the train.
  2. Keep the key to your stay safely tucked in your pocket.
  3. Snap photos; keeping memories is very important, but ask the locals first before you include them in the photo. I made that mistake once, and I regretted it.
  4. Be very observant of your surroundings, which includes the local phrases, the culture, infrastructure, and buildings.
  5. Be curious; curious enough to learn as much as you can, after all, you did pay all that money to get there.
These are the tips that I usually follow to ensure that I minimise disappointments, keep myself safe, and enjoy my travels.
